Prekmurje will impress the visitor with traditional craftsmanship, closely embedded in the activities of the past which were commonplace on the Mura river and have survived to the present day. Authentic mills, rafts, typical Prekmurje houses, and storks will amaze and excite everyone.
Departure from Ljubljana at 7.00 am. First stop is Ižakovci and Otok ljubezni (the Isle of Love), where we visit a traditional mill on the Mura, an exhibition of Büjrastvo, a film screening and a workshop of weaving. A raft will take us to the other bank of the Mura and back. Lunch is scheduled at a local Inn in Beltinci.
Our next stop is the village of Mala Polana and the Sabol Homestead, also the premises of the Rural Development Society of the Pomelaj area. We get acquainted with the local crafts and the rural activities of the past which are still relevant today. We’ll explore different materials, techniques, products, their significance then and now.
The last stop is Lipa, an idyllic old village, with a history of cultivating potatoe and known for potatoe dishes. Here we pay a visit to a Cimprana cottage, a house made up of straw, mud and wood. We watch a film about the rural architecture of the region and an exhibition of farm tools. After a snack we return to Ljubljana early in the evening.
