Bus departs in the morning from Ljubljana to Rogaška Slatina. Here we visit the Rogaška glassworks, which has three hundred and fifty years of glassmaking tradition. Today the glassworks is a worldwide known manufacturer of glassware in particular the prestigious crystal products. A guided tour through the production process reveals the craftsmanship of glassmakers. A lump of raw material is taken out of a kiln and a glassmaker blows the air into the lump, which expands as the glassmaker shapes it into a desired form. Then, the products are being cooled. The glass and crystal may be embellished by sandbrushing exterior surfaces or by hand painting. Throughout its history, the glass production has ramained virtually the same.
Then we visit Rogatec. After a walk through the mediaeval square we enjoy lunch.
Located nearby there is a museum in the open. It shows the architectural and cultural heritage of the rural area around the Sotla river between the 18th and the first half of the 20th century. The core of the exhibition is the original buildings and the reconstructions of farm structures, such as craftworks, a blacksmith workshop, an apiary, a winery, to mention only some.
Late in the afternoon we return to Ljubljana.
